リペアパーツの製造・販売や、ヴィンテージカーのレストレーションで知られるアメリカ・ジョージア州のパーツサプライヤー「イヤーワン（YearOne）」が、映画「トランザム7000（原題：Smokey and the Bandit）」で知られる俳優バート・レイノルズ（Burt Reynolds ）の名前を冠したスペシャルエディションを製作しました。

1977年型ポンティアック・ファイヤーバード・トランザム（PONTIAC FIREBIRD TRANS-AM）をベースにしたこのクルマは、2007年に製作されたプロトタイプから始まり、現在のモデル「バンディッド3」で3世代目。
「バンディッド3」では、徹底的なレストレーションを行ったボディにドライサンプ版のLS7（7.0リッターOHV・V8）を搭載し、最大出力515馬力を発揮します。

しかもトランスミッションは5速MTのみというハードな設定です。
合わせてフロントセクションはチューブラのサブフレームに変更され、ラック・アンド・ピニオン式のステアリング、4リンク式のリアサスペンション＆車高調整機能付コイルオーバーショップアブソーバーが備わるなど、細部も抜かりなし。
インテリアには4点式のロールバーが加えられ、ブレーキシステムはベアーレーシング製の6ピストンキャリパーに14インチのローターという組み合わせですから、走・止・曲3拍子そろったトランザムに仕上がっていますね。
もちろん、これらの装備を加えても、アメリカではストリートリーガルですよ。

もうちょっとマイルドな仕様をお望みの方には430馬力の7.5リッター・ポンティアックV8を搭載した、第二世代の「バンディッド2」もあり。こちらはオプションで4速ATも選べるイージードライビング仕様ながらも、GM製12ボルト・デフや18インチのメッシュホイール、チューブラー・サブフレームや4リンク式リアサスペンションなどの基本装備は「バンディッド3」と一緒ですから、これでも十分かと。
それにしても、この世代のトランザムはどれもカッコいいですね。
